The UK medical field offers great career opportunities with the many job openings in its huge medical field. Pursuing a medical career is a very noble career as you get to help people who are ill and need of help. With the improvement in the medical sphere, there are various job opportunities available in this area.
As an aspiring doctor, you have to first complete your undergraduate training and in medical school. On completing this, you have to work as an intern and then a resident. And if you intend to sub specialize in any field, you will have to spend another two years studying for it.
It takes a long time to become a doctor
Not only do you have to spend so many years studying to become a doctor, you also have to fare well in your examinations and get good marks to gain admission in the college of your choice. So for those people who think that becoming a doctor prove to be a long and tedious affair, there are other options you can consider in the UK medical field.
You could consider pursuing a career as a nurse. Although you may have to start working at the bottom as a nurse of hospital, you can climb up the ladder and find yourself in charge of a wing in a hospital. You may also end up working as specialised or private nurses where you care for patients in their homes, and can demand a better pay or salary for this service.
Emergency medical technicians have a lot of responsibilities
Then you could think of becoming an emergency medical technician who has to be on call at all times to rush to scenes where people get injured. It is up to an emergency medical technician to stabilise a patient before reaching the hospital. This is a hectic but lifesaving job as you are in charge of stabilising the patient using whatever equipment found in the ambulance.
A pharmacist is a less stressful job where you just have to dispense medication written on the customer’s prescription pad. You may have to explain to the patient how to take or use the medication and in some cases, advice even doctors on the dosage and side effects of some medications.
The only disadvantage of this job is that you have to work on holidays and weekends. However you can avoid this by getting a job in a mental institution, neighbourhood clinic or nursing home. The medical field also offers a career in a lab as a laboratory technician.
Serve people by testing samples
As a lab technician, you have to test samples patients and doctors. To become a technician, you have to learn how to use and operate the different machines used for analysing and testing these samples. You then just have to wait until the testing is done and wait for results.
If you are fascinated by the medical field, but just don’t have it to learn all there is to form a career here, you can always consider working as a medical assistant. Your duties here involve taking care of paper work and ensuring that the doctor’s clinic runs smoothly.
