Recruiters playing an important role in helping disadvantaged groups into work

Commenting on the meeting, Sarah Gordon, Chair of the REC Diversity and Inclusion Forum said: “Whilst the recession has made it more difficult for jobseekers, it is important to remember that there are still jobs out there. The feedback from professional recruiters is that whilst conditions are tough, they are beginning to improve and placements are beginning to increase.

“There are particular barriers facing young people as many employers view their lack of experience as a disadvantage, rather than assessing their broader potential. There are various options available to young people in order to develop their skills and experience, such as temporary work and internships, which can help make them more attractive to potential employers.”
